The real beginning of today’s Båtservice started in August 1948 when Westermoen Båtbyggeri AS in Mandal on the South coast of Norway was established. The name was subsequently changed to Båtservice Verft AS in 1964. Initially, production at the shipyard consisted of small pleasure crafts.
In 1949 our firm entered into an agreement with the Royal Norwegian
Navy for the design and production of a prototype of the MTB (motor torpedo boat) ‘RAPP’. This assignment led to a long and continuous business relationship which also led to relationship with the former West German Navy, the US Navy and the Greek Navy.

Our first civilian steel ship, a small coastal liner was delivered in 1955. Our production has also included car/trailer ships, heavy-lift ships, tugs and barges chemicaltank carriers and ferry boats We have also built a number of fishing vessels in plastic, wood and steel. One of our major projects consisted of the building and delivery of 20 pieces - 45 feet patrol boats to the Indian Customs Service.
Our shipyard has managed to adjust to the fluctuating markets and marketing conditions covering both in the maritime and offshore activities. 1972 we delivered the first Norwegian-built offshore supply vessel for a German ship owner. In addition, a number of vessels were built and delivered for standby, seismic and ROV (remotely operated vehicles) -Survey purposes. We have delivered over 800 vessels and a lot of rebuilds.

During the last 20 years, we have focused on the building of the fast-going vessels in aluminium. This production has consisted of rescue vessels, passenger catamarans and oil pollution protection catamarans.

The new Yard of Båtservice with the deep-sea dock was officially opened in March 2008. Today three independent shipbuilders are located within the region of Mandal, were we enjoy a highly qualified shipbuilding environment.
